Frequently Asked Questions about our Michigan Counseling and Psychotherapy Programs

FAQs

  • Anyone looking to achieve change and ready to take big steps, quickly! Because of the intensive and rapid nature of our approach, this type of therapy is not appropriate for clients recently hospitalized, self-harming, misusing substances or experiencing thoughts of suicide. We would be happy to refer you to a therapist in the area who works with clients navigating those issues if you’d like.

  • We practice out of East Lansing, Ann Arbor, Dearborn, Jackson and Grand Rapids, but are able to provide Telehealth throughout Michigan. Current in person openings are in the Lansing area only.

  • No, our practice serves Michigan residents only. If you’d like a referral for similar services in another state, please feel free to send us an email.

  • Our practice currently only has openings for EMDR intensives which are not typically covered in-network by insurance.

  • We will spend 30-45 minutes together talking through if the type of therapy we offer is a good fit for your needs and goals. Please note the following items of fit:

    - Client must be located in Michigan

    - Client must understand we have a 2 month waiting list for in person services so can only take telehealth clients immediately

    - Intensives are not appropriate for clients with suicidal ideation, recently hospitalized or currently misusing substances

If you are not a fit for our practice, please feel free to reach out and ask for a referral and we would be happy to provide one to try to help you get in to see another provider.

  • Intake appointments typically range in length from 25 to 45 minutes and can include reviewing assessments, an orientation to EMDR, SFBT, EFP and CBT, learning your history, and beginning to collaboratively set treatment goals. The client and our intake therapist will also discuss fit and our goal is to help you begin therapy with the therapist whose model will give you the most effective help in a timely manner.

  • We currently have a two month waiting list for in person services, but can schedule virtual services sometimes as quickly as in a week if they are a good fit for your needs. We also offer therapy intensives that can get you in faster, or recommend coaching through strategyandleadershipcollaborative.com for clients seeking something more educational and less clinical.

  • Our practice offers parent coaching and we have Telehealth availability for that starting next week, with a Certified Active Parenting Educator, a research based model created by Dr. Michael Popkin.

  • Our highly specialized models of treatment include Intensives, somatic and attachment focused EMDR, and EFP. Session and Intensive costs range from $165-695 depending on length, and client and therapist will decide together what length of session will be most effective.
